I witnessed a CEO encourage his leadership team to avoid labels. Don’t call HR. Call Carrie. Be a collection of people, not a collection of functional titles.

Labels generalize.

Labels categorize, often problematically.

Names personalize.

Names appreciate history.

Names build relationships.
